    Yes! Dental care is free for under 18s, even if you are not at school.   Click here to see a list of free dentists for teenagers.

    Once you have selected a dentist you need to enrol with them. To enrol you can contact the dentist directly, or enrol online here or call 0800 MY TEETH (0800 698 3384).

  • What is free basic dental care?

    Basic dental care includes:

    • An annual check up
    • Oral health advice and encouragement for good oral health
    • Examination and dental X-rays, if necessary
    • Preventative treatment, such as topical fluoride and fissure sealants (coatings)
    • Restorations (fillings) and extractions

  • In pain and need an urgent appointment?

    If you need urgent dental care, contact the dentist you are enrolled with. If you are calling outside their office hours, contact or go to an out of hours service.

  • Have your contact details changed?

    It’s important to let your dentist know if you have changed your contact details so they can keep in touch with you and let you know when it’s time for your next check-up. Is Northland District Health Board Oral Health Service your chosen provider? Then update your details with us here.

  • Need to change your appointment?

    Remember to call your dentist if you aren’t able to make your dental appointment. They’ll be able to re-book a time that works better for you.
