1918 - New Women’s Ward and Maternity Annexe

By December 1918, after vigorous lobbying at both national and local levels, the Cottage home was converted into a maternity annexe for Whangarei Hospital.   The first two babies were born 23 December 1918.

The additional women’s ward was constructed using funds raised by the Commercial Travellers Association.
