2019 - New Isolation Room for ED | Whangarei Hospital accredited for Medical Intensive Care Specialist Training

After years of hard work, advocacy, and significant system changes, Whangarei Hospital had become one of the 11 hospitals in New Zealand to become accredited for Medical Intensive Care Specialist Training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand. This was a significant achievement.

In August 2019, the projects team were pleased to hand over a new purpose-built isolation room to the Emergency Department, which provided the capacity to quarantine acute patients who presented with illnesses such as measles and should be separated from the main patient areas for assessment and care.
