2010 - NCF to help raise funds for new Oncology Facility | Board approved new 25-bed Mental Health Unit

The Board had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Northland Community Foundation to raise funds for the development of an oncology facility. This will provide an environment for cancer patients to receive chemotherapy treatment and attend outpatient appointments with specialists and multidisciplinary team members. The new facility will work under a model of patient and family- and whānau- centred care that has been developed.

The Northland DHB Board approved the developed design for the new 25-bed mental health unit at Whangarei Hospital at its meeting held on 21 June 2010. Works were scheduled to start on site at Whangarei Hospital in October 2010. The building was expected to be completed and operational by December 2011.
