2006 - Mauri Ora Breast Clinic and Renal Unit Opened

The Mauri Ora Breast Clinic facility was opened in June 2006 and represented another huge step forward in healthcare for Northlanders. The provision of a one-stop screening clinic in Whangarei ended the need for women to travel to Auckland for assessment. By accessing the latest technology, radiologists and specialists based at Waitematā DHB (our partners in this venture), the Northland DHB could provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and analytical support to local staff serving Northland women.

Whangarei Hospital’s Renal Unit was formally opened in June 2006, with 12 stations immediately utilised and more opening as demand increased. With Northland experiencing annual growth in haemodialysis patients of 15-20% per year, the hospital’s new dialysis facility’s opening was welcomed by staff and patients. The focus was to educate patients in self-care dialysis, as active patient participation was linked to better health outcomes.
