In April we will be opening the new Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and two new Operating Theatres.
The prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Northland contributes to the greater life expectancy gap between Northland and the rest of the Northern region and between Māori and non-Māori. Addressing avoidable mortality through improved care for patients with CVD gives the most significant opportunity to reduce overall mortality and inequities.
The reconfiguration the current theatre complex has allowed for a modular unit of two additional theatres to be constructed adjacent to the existing theatre complex. The refresh of the existing theatres, central sterile unit, storage areas and reticulated services has also been completed.
The theatre project seeks to address the current elective surgical demand which is exceeding the operating theatre capacity at Whangarei Hospital.
