At the end of June 2013, the Northland Community Foundation, on behalf of Northland DHB, had raised over 2 million dollars in donations towards the cancer treatment centre building. Planning permission had been granted, and tender documents for the Cancer Treatment Centre build, and fit-out were being prepared. The cancer treatment centre’s final cost was expected to be in the region of $5 million. If Project Promise reached its original goal of $3 million, Northland DHB agreed to contribute the balance. The DHB gave its sincere thanks to the Northland community for helping make this dream come true.
The new maternity unit design had been completed, and by the end of the year, demolition works would start to be ready for the new construction in the New Year. The fit for purpose design complied with Australasian health facility guidelines would offer a whānau friendly environment. ‘Mock-up’ rooms allowed consumer and clinician representatives to develop a service delivery model that put the mums and their families at the centre of the model of care.
