1962 - Phase 1 of the ‘new’ hospital opened and Chapel

Phase 1 of the ‘new’ hospital opened which contained 2 wings. The first wing was the main ward block and the other wing housed operating theatres and clinical support services such as laboratory, radiology and physiotherapy.

The chapel was also constructed during 1962 using money raised in the community, most of which came through a radio appeal. Many former staff have become married in the chapel, the first such ceremony taking place in July 1963.
