1929 - Mann Estate (Kowhai Cottage) Purchased

Hospital bought Mann Estate, located between Hospital Road and West End Avenue, and used it as an old men’s home.

From 1941, for about a decade and half, the house was used as staff accommodation, first for maids and then for nurses.

From 1955 it reverted to being an old men’s home and acquired the name of Kowhai Cottage at the request of Matron Hawken.
